Inspired by their own experiences, two parents came up with the idea of “Letterprins” to make learning to read more enjoyable, engaging, and effective. In 2013, they collaborated with scientific researchers, who then took over to secure funding and formed a consortium to maximize its impact in 2022. The objective of Letterprins is to address low literacy among 2.5 million Dutch people by igniting a passion for reading and enhancing reading skills. The app aims to improve reading motivation, promote literacy, and boost reading competence. The project’s mission is to empower individuals and families to nurture children’s reading abilities, through clever data-use by providing a free app accessible to all families.
The multichannel campaign achieved 1.9 million impressions and over 5,000 new registered accounts. Within 6 months, the number of accounts nearly doubled to 10,000. Our thriving player community of 3,000 children is a testament to the immersive experience and long-term engagement the app provides. Preliminary scientific analysis of data from 3,000 children shows a significant improvement in reading competency, validating the effectiveness of the app’s learning material. The success is also measured through engagement, long-term usage, and the contribution to the advancement of knowledge in literacy.
